We leave Honolulu in the morning and head southwest to find the trade winds. A cold front has just swept past us to the north, leaving us in a vacuum with heavy swell but no wind.

The heck is authenticity anyway?
I spent the past three weeks on the Hawaiian island Oahu, prepping the boat for our next leg. After the first week in Honolulu we had repaired the main sail, replaced our worn out batteries, serviced the generator, and stocked up a month’s worth of food. We were set to make the trip to Japan and raced south to find the trade winds. But, after eight hours at sea, we discovered that our generator wasn’t working and were forced to head back to Honolulu. Then the weather we were hoping to avoid turned bad as a typhoon in the North Pacific evolved into tropical storm Higos. Finally we’ve fixed the generator, the weather is good, and we’re all set to leave on Sunday (fingers crossed). Continue reading
